Day 284 - 81 Days to go
Base Camp Coffee of the Day: Lost on the Lake (Colombia/Sumatra blend)
I spent most of the night last night on "Flood Watch". It started when a thunderstorm rolled in and never left. About 1am, I decided to have a look at the lake and while it was high, it was not threatening yet. By 2am, things were looking worse. The lake was getting higher and the rain was not letting up at all. I decided that even if it didn't get out of it's banks, it was a good idea to at least dis-connect the laundry equipment for a potential move to higher ground. Since the big December flood of 2015, the only things left on the lower levels is our laundry room and a couple of water heaters. As long as the three washers and three dryers can get moved out, a flood really doesn't affect much around here any more. I've got the routine down to about a 15 minute process so it's more of an annoyance now than anything else.
By 3am, water began crossing the road, inching it's way towards our buildings. The rain let up but the water kept rising. At 4am, I decided it was time to move the equipment. The lake reached the door threshold as I moved the last dryer out and at 4:21...…. we had lake water in the laundry room. The funny thing is that as I finished setting things up on tables and got ready to drive away, I noticed a debris line on the road with what appeared to be water moving away from it. Was it actually already going down? I came back about twenty minutes later and sure enough, the lake was receding. by 6am, it was back in it's banks and all was returning to normal.
I suppose I can chalk this event up as another flood, even though it didn't technically flood the laundry. It did get about six inches of water in the basement under rooms 9 and 10 but there is nothing to harm in there. So once again...…. just a nuisance! The whole thing was over by the time it got light enough to take a picture. One of our guests did get a picture of the parking area after it was mostly empty again.
I guess it was time for a Laundry Room cleaning!

Adventure Quote: “Each of us has our definition of adventure: ending an unsatisfying relationship, returning to school, parachute jumping {preparing for a flood} or training for a marathon. Go ahead. Get your thrill on.”
