I probably should have gotten a picture of something outside today but honestly, Dave and I were too busy fighting off the cold weather to think much about it. So, tonight's fire will have to do. I vowed to stay inside all day today after -11 outside last night at the Marina Inn. That worked up until about 9:30 am. Dave and I had planned to do a little maintenance to the equipment in the well house at some point. (but not today) As it turned out, we lost water pressure about 9:30 and the pressure pump was still running in the well house. Upon investigation, we determined that the 4,000 gallon +/- water storage tank was empty. Without an explanation of the 30 minute diagnostic effort, we determined that the line to the tank had froze at some point, and the float valve that turned on the well pump also froze in a sheet of ice suspended near the top of the tank. It prevented the well from coming on, leaving non-moving water in the supply line which also froze. The 4,000 gallons of water finally depleted itself around 9:30. The remedy included thawing out the well pipe leading to the tank. Replacing a couple of non functioning heat tapes (See my "Heat Tapes I have Known" story) and finally, when the well water was flowing freely, knocking the float switch loose.......... And then everything returned to normal. That occurred about 5pm. So much for staying warm inside today! But I'm there now and feeling good about the day.
