March 6 - Resort Adventures

March 6, 2021
Day 65 - 300 Days To Go
5 Days Until the Marina Inn Opening
Base Camp Coffee of the Day: Highlander Grogg (Butterscotch/Rum flavors)

Tiffany asked "What am I doing?"    The answer..... "Sweating!"

Once again we had a water issue in one of the rooms. It was a little self inflicted. Like all older buildings, there is an entire menagerie of styles, types and sizes of plumbing connections. In this case, we ran into a slight drip on a shut off valve in a wall behind a cabinet which blew apart when we attempted to tighten it. At the Marina Inn, we have a combination of iron pipe, CPVC, Regular PVC, rigid copper, soft copper water lines, and now Pex. (that we are replacing everything else with as problems arise) With that many different kinds of pipe, there is an equal number of correct fittings to be used depending on the pipe. Likewise, everything else is correct for something but usually an unsuitable substitute for the one thing that's the "Right" thing. This was the case with our slight drip which was on a compression ring style shut off valve, perfect for soft copper but not so much for rigid copper. It was a rigid copper line that it was attempting to control. That slight twist was enough to break it free.

Bored yet?

The repair was not complicated. It just needed a "Sweat" style fitting instead of a compression fitting. The excitement came after the repair was done and we thought we had the correct water supply shut off in the back yard. But we didn't. Removing the temporary shut off valve resulted in an explosion of water in my face and soaking my entire left side (My Port side to you Treasured Times followers) It took less time to just thread it all back together under pressure that it would have to track down the correct main shut off. The panic and chaos that ensued, also robbed Tiffany of the presence of mind to get any of that part on video. (I suppose I should be thankful for that being the one getting drenched)

I'm happy to share the video of the repair and somewhat happy to also not have evidence of our home made geyser.
