Day 236 of the Adventure
What our "Process" looks like. |
I happen to believe that whatever you desire in life, the process, energy and commitment to building or obtaining it is closely proportional to the value you place on it. I think that's true for the process as well as the outcome. If it comes at a cost, it means you probably value it pretty highly. As I watch comments and questions regarding homestead living or off-grid living on social media, I see this all the time. People trying to figure out how to get from point A to point Z without considering there's an entire alphabet to navigate between the two. I get that. When there's a sudden impulse for an outcome, such as a piece of land to escape to and begin your big adventure, the outcome takes precedent over everything else. Sadly, when the reality sets in that there is going to be a process to it, many simply give up. In that case, I say, the outcome was never a strong enough motivator to commit to the process it would take to achieve.
The good news is, a bit of a shift in the mindset can change the whole outlook. Like almost everything in life, if it is possible to embrace the process and make it part of the adventure or journey, the final outcome will be an inevitable result. Honestly, with a "Homestead" or "Living off the Land" type of goal, the process for getting there can be a very satisfying journey in itself. It's almost as easy and getting a calendar and penciling in goals each month that move you toward your outcome. Of course, like any other big challenge, they need to be realistic. Minus the land and house, most of the steps can easily be divided up into bite-sized pieces. Gardening can be cheap, canning can be cheap, down-sizing un-necessary stuff can actually produce some "bank-roll for you, and so on. I guess the question needs to be, is the outcome worth the process?
