October 15 - DIY Homestead - A Campfire Inside and a Campfire Outside

Day 379 of the Adventure

Autumn Color Setting In
Each day that passes this Fall I keep thinking it will be the last warm day before it makes it's turn to true autumn and cooler weather. Then another 80 degree day pops up in the forecast.....like today. Giving us yet another day of mild, Summer-like temps to work on the cabin. It also extends the number of days in the Fall when I can wear my summer-time shorts and t-shirt to the morning fire. The morning is brisk but still tolerable. The color in the trees is definitely beginning to look rustic. The extended forecast ap on my phone tells me that in four short days we will be experiencing sub-freezing temps around here. The interesting part of that is that this will possibly be the first year in about ten that I won't be making my panic attempts at getting things "freeze-proof" around resort cabins.

We will be taking advantage of the nice day to add another batch of log siding to the cabin. We'll be working on the front of it today. The cabin is looking wonderful, but every time I decide to snap a picture, I realize that we still look more like a construction zone than we do a cozy cabin in the woods. I guess it is legitimate though. After all, it still is a construction zone.

Tomorrow we will need to shift priorities a little and focus a day on getting the wood stove installed. It will be one more project done and out of the way in time for the impending freeze this coming week. It's also a milestone I'm looking forward to. As my grandson says; "You have a campfire inside and a campfire outside!" Yep, that's one way of looking at it! I have no doubt that very soon, I'll be recording my morning campfire thoughts in front of a warm, indoor, wood stove fire.

Carry On
