A Lake Cabin Snap-Shot

I remember growing up that our family would try to take a week in the Summer and travel to some exotic location for a vacation. Living in Iowa, exotic usually meant Minnesota or Missouri. It didn't happen every year, but often enough to be anchored in my memories. Those weeks we often accompanied by another family who were friends who also had kids the same age as me and my sister. Most of the time, those trips involved a lake and a cabin. As an adult with kids, we tried to replicate that experience in our family as we were able. Financially it was difficult to get more than a couple of the "cabin at the lake" trips put together. However, we made up for it by camping as often as possible. Many times, that was every other weekend all Summer long and even stretching it into the early Spring and late Fall. It also included friends with kids the same ages as ours. As adults, we looked forward to each and every outing. The kids came to think of our campouts as just part of normal life. The best part of it too I might add. I'm thankful that we camped as often as we did. It generated a storehouse of memories for adults and kids alike. This coming week, we are preparing ourselves to extend that tradition to the next generation. I can't wait to share our experiences with you as our story continues.
