Day 891 of the Adventure
I'd say this was 55 years ago |
We had favorite places to camp. Two of them were "The Episcopal Center", a church camp outside our town that allowed public camping. The other was my uncle and aunt's farm outside town on the river bottom. We included other campsites, but those two became our regulars. In many ways, I believe these summer camps of ours were instrumental in pressing us into the business of recreational properties and resorts later in life. It gave us the opportunity to continue living the outdoors and cabin life while making those experiences available for others to enjoy.
I also hinted yesterday that we were on the brink of extending that experience to our next generation. As we continue to prepare this week, we are poised for a big experiment. The first of what I believe (and hope) to be many campouts will begin with our grandkids. A request was submitted for a "sleep-over" for the boys this week during their Spring Break from school. Of course, this will be a test run for their ability to stay a night away from home, but I'm thinking that camping at grandpa and grandma's cabin will set with them okay. We've even ordered a bunk bed style set of camping cots for them. Following up with this will be an attempt to get our grand-daughter involved. She may be a little too nervous by staying away from her mom just yet but we hope to give it a try soon. Once the weather warms to the point of outside night-time comfort, I think we'll try a big tent on the back deck with all of them. Pretty ambitious for a couple of 60 somethings. I believe it's worth a try.
Carry On
Adventure Quote: “Very few things in life can be so exhilarating as a cabin in the middle of the forest and loving life effortlessly while enjoying the smell of freshly ground heaven in your hot cup, in front of a fireplace... Sweet Solitude, you have taught me to live with very little. So very little it turned out to be a luxury.” ―
