Day 971 of the Adventure
Once again, I'm back on my self-sufficiency theme which tends to dominate our life direction anymore. As I've mentioned in the past, I've been an amateur student of economics almost my entire life. The subject fascinates me, particularly in the way that economists are able to predict trends with amazing accuracy. Many "experts", politically and journalistically, fall back to the term "unintended consequences" when attempting to explain why economies turned out different than what they (the politicians and journalists) had expected. In reality, all actions and decisions have consequences and most can be easily "expected". The consequences of inflation and national debt alone are enough by themselves to warrant a personal plan of financial defense. I remember telling Shelley "this is going to go bad" back in the early stages of the pandemic when the government began it's "Money Throwing" to compensate for it's isolation policies and business closing mandates. It was during this conversation when we began looking toward a self-sufficiency plan. It was bad enough in the beginning, but it just didn't stop. We watched the government start throwing money and anything and everything. It ran up staggering debt and fueled higher prices through inflation. To make things worse, interest rates began to climb in an attempt to cool it all off. Honestly, I don't even understand how it all interacts. I just know by watching it happen several times in my life, that it happens, and the consequences are remarkably predictable.
Politically, each side claims to have their own solutions for it. In reality, while I'm definitely in favor of one over the other, I don't believe that either have the will to implement solutions that will change the course enough to make much of a difference for a long time. What does this mean for us normal people just trying to live life? I guess it comes down to either just learn to live with it or fight back by building some self-sufficiency defenses. The consequences of moronic government spending decisions may have been unintended, but certainly were not unpredictable. I have no intention of simply waiting around for them to get their act together. For all of the reasons above, we are choosing to build a life of self-sufficiency.
