The Trap No One Talks About - March 8

There is a trap that most of us are caught in at some point in our lives. It's something that we are either able to break away from or we simply get comfortable in. That trap is our comfort zone and the freedom from the trap is our dreams. Unfortunately, the longer we remain in the trap, the more difficult it is to escape. In fact, there comes a time when it's easier to justify just remaining trapped. Is your dream is that of living a life on a homestead, off-grid, farm or backwoods lifestyle? Have you made that jump to this kind of life? This is the subject of many of our videos. That of starting your off-grid, homestead, backwoods lifestyle after the age of 60. I'd even extend that down to the 50's or even 40's. 

Our journey began in our minds close to forty years ago. In some small ways, we were able to implement a few small measures of self-sufficiency in our home we had in town. It never reached the level of our dream of a home in the country. That dream was placed on hold, literally for decades. The whole time, we felt trapped in a lifestyle we wanted freedom away from. Our dream was to own some land away from town and enjoy the solitude of living closer to nature. We loved the woodsy, forest kind of life. Talking about your dreams is not easy with those who don't share similar desires. It's much easier when you have a few "Kindred Spirits" in your circle of friends that can relate with you. No matter how strongly you feel about wanting to break free of your routine and live the life of your dreams, this trap will hold you tight until you are able to muster up the courage to make it a reality. The decision to start, is just the beginning. From that decision, there's a whole set of challenges to face. That of finding land, figuring out how to get it bought, will you buy land with a home or build one. All of these things and more will confront you on your journey. It's often said that your dreams are not a destination but a journey. I believe this is true in your quest to create and live a "back to the land" life. It's a brief look at life as we broke free of our "Trap" and began our journey towards the dream of owning our place in the woods.
