January 2 - Resort Adventures

January 2, 2019
Day 2 - 363 Days to go
58 Days until March 1

Ray and Eve with my dad in the center
We begin today with sad news to report. Normally this would not be a part of the "Resort Adventures", but in this case, it is. Over 50 years ago, my family would travel from our home in central Iowa to some far off exotic location for a week each summer to spend time in a cabin on a lake in either Minnesota or Missouri. These trips were always a two family trip with my parents along with their good friends Ray and Eve and their kids. Their three kids along with my sister and I have grand childhood memories of these trips that we still reminisce about to this day. These trips were partially to blame for my obsession with resorts, cabins, lakes, etc. It was those trips way back in the 60's that provided the inspiration when we purchase our first small resort property. That property is now run as Cross Timbers Cabins which is one of the four properties that make up our Resort and Cabin company.

Last night I received the sad news that Ray, my parents friend and fishing partner, who has been a part of their story for decades, had passed away. His wife Eve has been gone for a few years, and now he has joined her once again. It was the combined trips that our two families had taken over the years that inspired much of our resort business and therefore, our "Resort Adventures". I would be honored if you read our "The Origins of Our Resort Business" to see where our "Adventure Story" began.

We've sent our condolences to the family and know that the bonds of friendship we've shared over the years are still strong. In fact, those friendships are now entering the fourth generation with the birth of the great grandchildren, Easton on the Cheever/Lowe side and Callahan on the Teig side. Both boys were born within a few months of each other and whose fathers make up part of the third generation and are good friends.

While it's a sad day, there is also some satisfaction in knowing that Ray and Eve, and my parents, Ray and Mary have all contributed to the odd "Resort Adventure" legacy that Shelley and I carry on to this day.

Long Live the Adventure!
