February 8 - Resort Adventures

February 8, 2019

Day 39 - 326 Days to go
21 Days until March 1

Base Camp Coffee of the Day: Lost on the Trail (Guatemala)

Three weeks from today is March 1st. Not that we will be completely immune from winter weather by then, but usually, it's far enough in the rear view mirror that it will no longer be an issue. That's the magic date when it feels like winter is over. I had some ore good news today regarding the Black Bear Cabins, Yesterday I got electricity back on in the main house for some heat. Today I got the water turned on (at least to the main house, and there were no frozen or broken water pipes. I guess we dodged a bullet there because it seemed cold enough a couple of time to have been a potential problem. Of course there are other cabins to be concerned about but at least we are off to a good start. Tomorrow I think I'll be spending some time there starting to get things back in order there.

Over the past couple years I've received all kinds of recommendations on what to do with the property, Everything from convert it to a tiny home "Pocket Neighborhood" to bulldoze it down. The many and various suggestions and opinions reflect a range of creativity from 0-100 on a scale of 0-100. One of the more creative ideas was to convert the cabins over to low voltage, energy efficient small homes. I've toyed with that idea some. I just don't know enough about it, but it is interesting. Some of the more negative suggestions come from people who don't understand the Resort Adventure. Every time I get over there and start working, my mind races with possibilities. It would be so much easier if it were our only project. But squeezing in the essential work  needed there in between everything else is a major challenge. But..... one day at a time and one cabin at a time, it will come back to life in one form or another.

Meanwhile, the treehouse bookings are going crazy from my email notifications. We welcomed in fishermen today at the Rainbow Haven Resort. Even though it's still pretty chilly today, they were from farther north so they were excited about how warm it was. (I guess it's all a matter of perspective)
