Day 864 of the Adventure
I thought yesterday was going to be a lazy day, and it was. We may be up for breaking a "Lazy Day" record today though. The snow that was promised yesterday afternoon finally began arriving around 5am this morning. By 7am, this is what we were looking at into the woods off the back deck. It's days like today that make me appreciate the fact that we indeed have a fourth season. One that shows up and then, like a good visitor, knows when it's time to depart. I see we are expecting 55 degrees by tomorrow and 62 by Wednesday. Before getting up to stoke the fire up, I lay in bed looking out the window. A Robert Frost poem came to mind.
Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening
Whose woods these are, I think I know
His house is in the village though
He will not see me standing here
To watch his woods fill up with snow
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year
He gives his harness bells a shake
As if to say there's some mistake
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake
The woods are lovely, dark and deep
But I have promises to keep
And miles to go before I sleep
And miles to go before I sleep
by Robert Frost
Poetry has never been an active pursuit of mine. I do have a good friend who has written an entire book of poetry that is remarkable. I even tried it myself once describing the comedic turmoil that two friends and I had attempting to rescue and reposition a Buoy Marker from the lake. I can easily admit that I'm not very good at it. Both the poetry and the rescuing of inanimate objects from the water. Still, This Robert Frost poem is something that struck a chord with me when I read it the first time and is, to this day, the only poem I have ever committed to memory. It surfaces in me each time I am witness to a quiet and snowy patch of woods. "The Woods Are Lovely, Dark and Deep"............
