Day 896 of the Adventure

Our first grandkid camp-out at the cabin has survived the night and entered the second day. I wasn't sure how they would deal with the night in a strange place. They did great. Their dad said they wake up early so be ready for it. Sure enough, before the sky even began to lighten up, I heard a small voice from across the cabin saying. "I'm not tired anymore". That was at about 6:30am. I tried to quietly convince them to try and sleep a little longer.......... But no.....When it became obvious that they were progressively becoming wider awake and ready to start the day, It was time to intervene. I asked if they wanted to help me build a morning fire in the stove and they were all about that. They sat, quietly mesmerized by the flames. For quite a long time actually. It's something new to them I suppose. We had bought a couple of battery powered lanterns for them to find their way around in the dark. Whether they actually needed them or not, they accompanied them everywhere they went. In fact, you can see the bright light of one of them in the picture. I'm sure that good memories were seeping in as they soaked up the warmth. They requested cereal and pancakes for breakfast. played a few games around the cabin and then watched a movie. The weather was rainy all night and then cold for most of the day so getting outside was restricted to the back deck to avoid the mud. The cabin may be a little small for two energetic boys if cooped up for very long. As the afternoon grew late and it was time to pack for home, they were already trying to make plans for the next visit. I'd call that a success.
