June 1 - The Campfire Trail - Break In Targets Food

Day 974 of the Adventure


In this environment of high prices, there's been a lot of talk in the homesteading and prepping groups about the potential theft of food and other provisions. While I had never actually heard of anything like that happening in the past, today I have. It came in the form of a social media posting where someone's house had been broken into with food being the only target. That story was followed up with another and then even another. I guess it was inevitable that this was going to happen at some point and from the looks of it, it's begun. I cannot imagine that a lot of planning would have gone into the theft of food. I would almost have to believe that it was out of desperation of not having any. I honestly can't think of anyone saying to themselves, "We may run out of food in three months so we better go brake in somewhere and get some more". It just doesn't sound plausible. On the other hand, "We are hungry and have no food or money to get any. Let's go break in somewhere and get some!" Even though this is a reality in it's infancy, I expect we'll see more and more of it. It underscores my insistence on building some self-sufficiency in our lives.
